Who is Glorfindel

Glorfindel is the hero of Gondolin who defeats the Balrog who chases the survivors into Thorondor’s domain. He, like many of the others who died defending Gondolin, is an exceptional fighter capable of taking down the Balrog on his own. However, this leads to Glorfindel’s death as both him and the Balrog plummet to their deaths. Glorfindel is honored as a hero when they reach the Sirion River, and the narrator says that his story is passed on for generations after his death.
