The Two Trees represent the good of Middle-earth. When the trees are corrupted, the people of Middle-earth suffer. When the trees are blooming, Morgoth’s corruption is repelled. The initial death of the Two Trees is what drives the Valar to block Valinor from the rest of the world and contain all the light they can in their own city. However, the author makes it clear that revitalizing the trees in the future with the Silmarils will defeat Morgoth. This is also shown in Gondolin where trees of silver and gold represent the prosperity and safety of Middle-earth, and their death represents the evil that has arrived in Gondolin. The Two Trees are an essential piece in defeating Morgoth and bringing light back to Middle-earth.
