The Noldoli represent separation from the gods. After the banishment, many Noldoli developed contempt for the Valar. Even worse, the Valar develop a hatred for the Noldoli after the battle at Swanhaven. This disconnect between the gods and men allows evil to control Middle-earth. It is proven that the Valar have the power to protect people from Morgoth. Ulmo shows this numerous times when he hides and protects people who believe in him. Yet, the Noldoli face unparalleled suffering because of this separation. Only by reconnecting with the gods can the Noldoli find peace.
