One incident that changed Gandhi forever dealt with his older brother, Laxmidas. The brother was holding an important government position but he feared a run-in with a British official would hamper further advancement. He called on Gandhi, who kned this official casually, to intercede for him. When Gandhi visited the official, he was treated rudely and thrown out of the building. Gandhi decided he never wanted to be part of the pettiness and snobbery of the government.
