Gandhi expressed his rather unconventional thoughts on Indian independence in his first book, HIND SWARAJ or INDIAN HOME RULE written in 1909 and reissued unchanged in 1921. In this book, Gandhi's philosophy that India allowed its oppressors to be successful emerges. Gandhi urged that Indian freedom was dependent upon the nation treating the British in a just manner.
