Gandhi was offered a position as a lawyer in South Africa which he accepted. After arriving in Africa, Gandhi experienced the second incident that changed the direction of his life. While riding on a train from Maritzburg, South Africa, an English man protested Gandhi's presence in first-class. He was considered "colored" and should not have been allowed to ride in first class. Although he had a ticket for his seat, he and his luggage were thrown off the train when he refused to move. This incident led to his resolve to fight color prejudice.
