The Squalor's home is richly decorated with pillows embroidered in silver and chairs painted in gold; even the tables are made from expensive trees. The furniture speaks to the Squalor's wealth and extravagance. Surely money is no option for the Squalors, and their penthouse apartment supports that. With over seventy rooms, the penthouse apartment is extremely large. Mr. Squalor tells the Baudelaire children that the penthouse apartment is very expensive.
