The story is written in third person point of view. Much of the story takes place from the view point of Wil Ohmsford but there are other characters that the author chooses to shadow. Some will be followed only once and others will be reoccurring focal points. The view in the story is limited, shown by the fact that when Allanon is in the ancient Druid castle reading about the Bloodfire and the Ellcrys seed the reader is shown none of what he is reading or thinking despite the fact that he is the character being focused on. Often the reader is able to know a character's thoughts and feelings but not specific details.
