The tone of The Disordered Cosmos can be highly critical, but it is not overly negative. Prescod-Weinstein mostly focuses on the bad, not because she believes there is little good to say, but because she believes that the good has already been said so frequently. She assumes that her reader already knows the good pretty well, but that the bad has been hidden and needs pointing out. She wants to challenge the narrative that science and history have mostly been created by white men, which means that she calls attention and gives credit to many people who have largely been left out of the traditional narrative, but also that she knocks a number of famous scientists and thinkers down a few pegs.
