Why is Babette revealed to have been upset on the evening of the dinner?

Babette is upset during the dinner because she knows of her husband's intentions to pull out of the election and to out his son as being responsible for the murder of the homeless woman at the ATM. She does not want to lose her standing or Serge's political career.
