Why does Paul go into Michel's room an hour before he and Claire leave for the restaurant? Why does he tell Michel he is there?

Paul goes into Michel's room in order to look at his phone. He scrolls through the phone and sees a video that incriminates his son. When Michel finds him in his room and asked why he is there, Paul says he is looking for Michel.
