Who is Candy King from The Deep End of the Ocean and what is their importance?

Candy is a private detective. She assists the Cappadora family in their efforts to find Ben from the beginning. While working on the case, she and Beth become quite close, as Candy seems to have an understanding of Beth that eludes most people.

Candy is professional, reasonable, and she serves as the voice of reason for Beth when she becomes too depressed to function. She forces Beth to get out and often visits her, keeping her apprised of the investigation.

Candy is described as an extremely attractive woman, who would love nothing more than to have a child. She later marries an old friend who would like to be a father, but their marriage and attempts to have a child fail, leaving them to amicably divorce.
