Is Zu sassy?

In the Darkest Minds, there is a scene where Hina sasses Liam, and Liam says," Did I just get sassed by a twelve-year-old?". Ruby responds with saying "I guess it runs in the family". (Page 342) However, I do not remember Zu being sassy. I thought she was a sweet and nice girl. Can someone clear this up? Thanks!
