The Crucible
Do you agree that the crucible is a play that is more about the present than about the past?

I think one of the more enduring aspects of the crucible is its comstant relevance through the ages. During the tense era of McCarthyism, Arthur Miller was inspired to write a drama reflecting the mass cultural and political hysteria produced when the U.S. government sought to suppress Communism and radical leftist activity in America. This political and cultural polerization/paranoia can certainly be seen in American society today.
