Importance of George's Firing of Mehmet

The fact that George fires Mehmet for his own good symbolizes the fact that George has learned that sometimes one needs to do something to somebody that seems extreme for the good of that person. As George says, if Mehmet stays in the confort of working at the print shop, he will settle and never grasp the opportunity to follow his dream of becoming an actor which will bring him joy.
