The Convergence of the Twain
The Convergence of the Twain is composed of eleven three-line stanzas, or tercets. These tercets consistently rhyme in an AAA scheme. By opting for a loose, ballad-like form, Hardy situates his poem alongside the great tragedies of the classical period, many of which evoked a similar (if only ostensible) sense of improvisation.
