Who is The Lady from The Colour of Magic and what is their importance?

The Lady lives in Dunmanifestin, which is the dwelling of Discworld's gods. She is a goddess, she enjoys gambling, appears sporadically, and doesn't like to be the object of worship. Over the course of the novel, she is of great assistance to the characters of Rincewind and Twoflower, who she helps escape.
