Sebastian’s family is a representation of how impossible it is to avoid grief or death no matter how hard they try. While Clover’s interaction with them is relatively minor, their focus on the logistics of Claudia’s death and their unwillingness to talk about it too much is the reaction that many readers will be more familiar with. Yet, instead of making Clover look strange like she thinks it does, it actually shows why her job is so important. Death will come for everyone regardless of how hard they try to ignore it. Having someone like Clover to help process it will make the process bearable.
