What is the author's style in The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah?

Once author Souljah determined that the novel would be presented in the first person, she knew that the language had to be realistic and credible to the reader. Fortunately, Souljah has obvious background and experience in the language of typical urban and minority poverty, and thus Winter speaks and thinks in this language.
