Each of the tribal gates represents symbolically the tribe to which it belongs; furthermore, by showing how they compete with one another for attention, Chakraborty is conveying the lack of harmony among the tribes. There are six tribal gates on the perimeter of the Central Plaza of Daevabad. The Sahrayn Gate has black and white pillars with a grapevine ornament. The Ayaanle Gate is crowned with a scroll and salt tablet. The Geziri Gate is a simple stone arch. The Agnivanshi Gate is richly decorated with stone dancing figures, and the Tukharistani Gate is an intricately patterned polished jade. Finally, the Daeva Gate is the most ornamental of all with its white and gold paneled, pale blue doors flanked by enormous brass shedu.
