Who is Angel from The Cider House Rules and what is their importance?

Angel is Candy and Homer's son. They raise him together, but Angel is raised to believe the two are his adoptive parents. When Wally returns from the war, Wally helps raise Angel, too. It isn't until Angel's sixteenth birthday that Homer tells Angel the truth—that he and Candy are his biological parents.
