Bother-It's-Gone is the middle class of the Land of the Lost and is an example of how many people prefer personal safety over the protection of others. This is why so few citizens of Bother-It's-Gone are willing to help the Surplus, despite being the closest on the Wastes. This is also why characters like Addie refuse to acknowledge the existence of the City of the Missed, while also talking down on those stuck in Disposable. Bother-It's-Gone is safety to these Things. It offers security that Disposable does not, but a reassurance that they do still mean something in the Up Above. In some ways, Bother-It's-Gone is a state of denial for many who enter, and that avoidance of acceptance can lead to the deaths of many other Things that they could have saved.
