How does the author use foreshadowing in The Child in Time?

For Stephen, foreshadowing can be found in "the vision of his parents" youth. The picture of his parents, their bicycles, and the couple sitting in a bar together foreshadows his own fate coming full circle when he follows the same path in which he saw the bicycles to reunite with his wife.
