What does Spider web represent

A spider web represents the tangle of lies that Emma has kept over the years in order to protect her secrets. She kept her pregnancy secret as well as the burial of her baby. The lies kept her from being honest with her husband and led him to believe that she had some sort of anxiety disorder rather than knowing any of the details of her childhood or family life. The lies also kept her from continuing her relationship with her best friend as well as having a trusting relationship with her mother. Yet, keeping everything hidden is the thing that kept her going, even though it was a miserable existence. She was afraid that if she ever went to a therapist and began to talk about her anxiety, a small thread would be pulled. The web would collapse, and everything would come tumbling out (14).
