In Part Two, Chapter Twelve, Karim finds Eleanor in a deep state of depression. He comforts her, and she finally gives in and sleeps with him. This changes their relationship to a much more intimate one, and Karim falls deeply in love with her, feeling things he never felt before - even with Charlie.
