As the narrative is a psychological thriller which focuses on Cass’ psychological problems and is told from Cass’ perspective, the language in the narrative provokes feelings of fear and confusion. For example, events make Cass’ heart flutter, thump, miss a beat, sink, race, and plummet. She worries and has gnawing feelings in her stomach. She often wonders about situations and she has doubts.
