The Boy in the Black Suit

Think about Matt’s opinion of flowers. What are they a symbol of? When Matt destroys the flowers, what is he actually destroying?

In Chapter Ten, when Matt is at the cemetery and sees the dead flowers on his mother's grave he has a negative reaction. He never offers an origin or explanation for this attitude, though it may be that he develops this hatred of cut flowers when his mother is dying, comparing the dying flowers to his mother's condition. That symbolism could be the reason for his attitude, though it seems that he has hated the flowers even before Daisy's death... he attempts to destroy the flowers in order to destroy his own anger.
