What is Broken Clay Pot?

The broken clay pot Yaltha gives Ana after Susanna's death symbolizes sacrifice. Though the pot is one of few the family has, Yaltha smashes it in order to provide Ana the writing materials she needs. Once Ana begins writing on the potsherds, she begins to recover from losing her daughter. Sacrificing the pot ultimately leads Ana towards healing.
