Why is Max forced to leave the Hubermann house?

While Jewish prisoners are being paraded through town one day, Hans hands a starving man a piece of bread. People in the neighborhood witness this act, and Hans knows he will soon be arrested for sympathizing with the Jews. He knows that when he is arrested, they will search his house and Max will be discovered. He hurries home to tell Max he must leave immediately.
