What does Max give to Liesel on her birthday?

At first, Max is embarrassed that he has no gift for Liesel on her birthday. Then, he paints over the pages of the book "Mein Kampf" and writes a new storybook for Liesel on its pages, entitled "The Standover Man", about a man who is haunted by a past he cannot escape.
