How does the Hubermann family react during the first air raid drill of the year?

When the air raid drill goes off, the Hubermanns race to the neighbor's house and cram themselves, along with twenty other people, into the bomb shelter. When everyone is panicked, Liesel begins to read aloud, calming everyone. While the family is gone, Max sneaks out of the basement to take a look at the sky. It is the first time he has been out of the basement in nearly two years.
