Uncle Benjamin is Valancy's uncle. He owns a store in town. He is always telling jokes about old maids and women that are not married in an effort to make fun of Valancy. After Valancy and Barney marry, Uncle Benjamin is downright rude to Barney when the couple shops in his store one day. Uncle Benjamin insists on getting Valancy and Barney back together when he finds out that Barney is an heir to the Redfern fortune. Uncle Benjamin also goes to his lawyer and makes Valancy the sole heir of Uncle Benjamin's money.
