Mrs. Amelia Frederick is Valancy's mother. Mrs. Frederick is a very regimented woman. She has rules as to when the fires can first be lit in the home for cold moths. She requires breakfast, lunch and dinner to be served at the same time every day.
Mrs. Frederick always seems to be disappointed in Valancy and doesn't allow Valancy any downtime. She requires that Valancy is always working on something. When Valancy marries Barney Snaith, Mrs. Frederick pretends that Valancy is dead. It's only when Mrs. Frederick finds out that Barney Snaith is Bernard Redfern that she accepts Valancy and Barney's marriage.
