The series is structured around 58 chapters, many of them an average of 10+ pages. Each chapter features the viewpoint of a different character, which moves the plot along. Interestingly, Riordan seems to understand that the age group he has written for will bog down in too much details about traveling, eating, or mundane actions, so he structures the chapters so that most of these tasks have already been accomplished. For example, one chapter may mention that Nico is going to transport everyone, and then a few chapters later, they've already arrived and been at their destination for a while. Thus, while the other chapters may be providing crucial information about the other characters, the sense of time is progressing.
