What are the motifs in The Black Ice by Michael Connelly?

Defying authority is a recurring idea. Harry Bosch is a unique cop. Harry made a large amount of money when a movie was made of one of his cases, allowing him to buy a house in a unique section of Los Angeles. This situation has not made Harry many friends in the LAPD. To add to this tension, Harry was also accused by IAD of criminal activity, resulting in his reassignment from the elite Robbery-Homicide Division to the detective's desk at the Hollywood Division. Not many cops respect Harry anymore and most of Harry's superiors are wary of him; therefore, it is no surprise that when the body of Calexico Moore is found, the Robbery Homicide guys go around protocol and exclude Harry from the case. Harry goes to the scene anyway and is given the unhappy task of informing the widow. However, that is as far as Harry's involvement is meant to go.
