Torrens is an advisor to the queen and the doctor who treats the queen's mother, Caroline. Torrens manages to overtake the coachmen on the way to prison and escapes with Caroline into the countryside. Torrens takes Caroline's ring with the royal signet to pawn for money. The pawn broker is Ingo. Ingo recognizes the royal signet and brings Torrens to Mickle. He immediately helps in the revolution, advising Mickle.
