Caroline is Mickle's mother. She is very sick, but is taken from her bed by soldiers when Cabarrus takes over the castle. She is assisted in escaping by her loyal doctor Torrens, but the journey is too much for her. She dies with Torren by her side in a small farm house outside of the city. She makes Torrens promise that he will help her daughter Mickle escape from Cabarrus. She gives him her ring with the royal signet to sell.
