How does the author use foreshadowing in The Beautiful Room Is Empty?

In Chapter Ten, the appearance of the narrator's sister is not only an interesting turn of events and not only another component in the narrator's growing sense of self acceptance. It also foreshadows contemporary scientific analysis that suggests there is, in fact, a genetic component to homosexuality.
