The orange signs in the story “Blockade Billy” are signs of camaraderie. When the fans start referring to Billy as “Blockade Billy,” they also start bringing orange road signs with them to hold up when a runner is on third base. Grantham tells King that while his experience with having Billy on the team was largely negative, there was still a sense of camaraderie among the fans when they cheered for Billy and displayed their signs.
