Comment on Gallows.

The gallows are a symbol of aborted justice. This symbol appears in the story “A Death.” The men in the town where Trusdale lives have already begun building the gallows from which he will hang even before he had been found guilty of murder. Trusdale is allowed to have a trial of sorts, but it appears to be only a show. The people have already decided he is guilty, even though he claims to be innocent and there is no solid proof.
