Bartholo is a wealthy, older man, who is guardian to the beautiful Rosine. He is old, cantankerous, and possessive..... an ultimately plans to wed Rosine. Thus, in order to see his plans through, he isolates his ward, planning to force the issue if she does not agree. In the end, he is thwarted by the Count, who is aided by Figaro.
