Malcolm's father, Reverend Earl Little, was Baptist minister, who was born in Reynolds, Georgia. His mother, Louise Little, came to the United States from Grenada in the British West Indies.
Unlike her husband, Louise wasn't raised in a religious atmosphere. Her father was white; she was well-educated. Malcolm describes his mother as very light skinned, skinned. He says “she looked like a white woman”. He also notes, “She had straight black hair, and her accent did not sound like a Negro’s”.
