What are The Creatures

In the novel, the strange creatures that the man encounters in the new country become a symbol of the immigrant. There are many different creatures that the man meets, but all of them appear to be a combination of animals; the man’s creature looks like a mix between a mouse and a dog, while the factory worker’s creature looks like a mix between a cricket and a bird. So while the creatures may seem strange to both the man and the reader, they are not wholly unfamiliar in appearance. The creatures represent the man’s own position as an immigrant, as though he is in a strange new country, he still maintains his sense of self and thus there are nonetheless familiar aspects of his new life.
