What does Lickety Split represent?

Lickety Split symbolizes Zuckerman’s desire to escape his own life and identity. Lickety Split is the name of a fake pornography publication that Zuckerman makes up while talking to a stranger on an airplane. In this conversation, Zuckerman says that he is a pornography publisher named Milton Appel. Zuckerman becomes very involved in this persona and finds that he actually has fun while pretending to be this invented person. Zuckerman even maintains the persona for a long period of time when interacting with Ricky the chauffeur, as Zuckerman appears stimulated and gratified by the idea of not having to be Nathan Zuckerman for a period of time.
