Count Saint-Simon was French philosopher. His ideas centered on building a new social order. Though his ideas are not always well-formed, Hobsbawm asserts that his thinking is widely influential among the socialist thinkers who follow in his footsteps, particularly Karl Marx. Unlike Marx, Saint-Simon does not call for political revolution in order to obtain his ideal social system but imagines it can be created through education.
