Who is Mike Murphy from Thanksgiving and what is their importance?

Former police officer, Mike Murphy, is Megan's father. He and Patrick first meet after Patrick was drenched in a rain storm and is drying off in his home. Definitely one to act first and ask questions late, Mike punches Patrick in the nose..... the fact that Patrick was wearing his daughter's robe led him to misconstrue the situation.
