Habituation is a technique that is used to help soldiers deal with the after effects of war. It is where soldiers keep repeating an incident until it starts to dissipate and then not be so impactful. It is like seeing a scary movie for several days in a row. The first day it is frightening and you might have nightmares. After seeing it ten times, you get bored because you know what is happening. The session leader tells the men that it is the same principle with explosions. If the guys can get to a place and have the experience repeatedly and stay with it until it starts to dissipate, that's when the explosion starts to be less and less impactful.
