In Chapter 9, why did Tim Jung not commit suicide?

One day Tim went to the river to commit suicide. First he wrote letters to his kids, and then he looked around at his surroundings. The thought that the area was beautiful crossed his mind. He began noticing his surroundings in more detail. As he watch and thought of how beautiful everything was, something changed. He no longer wanted to died. So he went back home.
