In Chapter 13, how does the area around Pathway Home unnerve and seduce Adam?

From the first day that Adam arrived, the place unnerved and seduced him. There were hundreds of acres. He could smell grapes in the air. There were different types of trees everywhere, including the palm outside his window. He hears a different sound when the wind blows than what he heard in Kansas. Even the leaves in the place seemed to call to him.
