How did Adam save Michael's life?

Adam heard a gunshot, and he ran up stairs to the roof in 80 pounds of gear. He saw Michael on a stretcher, and he tried to help carry it down the stairs. Michael kept rolling off the stretcher, so Adam put Michael on his back and carried him down as Michael's blood soaked his clothes and ran into his mouth. Adam got Michael help before it was too late.
